Fujifilm X-T4 - Review
Very large X-T3
The X-T4 has a larger battery than the X-T3 and adds image sensor stability, so it is understandable that it is larger, but not much larger. The IX-T4 is taller than the smidge and the grip is a bit deeper, but its 3.7-by-5.3-by-2.5-inch (HWD) frame is still brighter than the one you get with a similarly installed SLR, like the Nikon D500 (4.5 by 5.8 by 3.2 inches, 1.9 pounds).
The camera also weighs less than the 1.2-pound X-T3, weighing in at 1.3 pounds when loaded with a battery and a memory card. The body itself is a mixture of magnesium, with the threat of leatherette and extensive sealing to protect it from dust and disturbance. Many of Fujifilm's lenses are equally protected.
I have never had the opportunity to use the X-T4 in heavy rain, but I had no hesitation in placing the camera under the kitchen faucet for testing. Passed by flying colors, it kept screaming when it rained. A closed lens is a must if you want to take advantage of climate protection.
The X-T4 is for sale to all blacks, which we have found to be considered, as well as a silver body with darker skin tones. There are two kit options, one with XF 18-55mm for $ 2,099, and the other with XF 16-80mm weatherproof for $ 2,199. I've been using the XF 16-80mm camera and find this couple fun - I highly recommend it when you buy a standard zoom with a camera.
The inner light is left out, not surprisingly. The X-T series has never had it, and the feature disappeared from the cameras aimed at lovers and professionals. If you want a little flash light, Fujifilm sells the camera-enabled EF-X8 for only $ 39, and there are more powerful strobes available for more money, even though they need their own batteries.
True Hybrid Stills & Video
The addition of IBIS and screen scanning makes X-T4 a more attractive way to use hand-held video than X-T3, which eliminates both. Earlier, that role was filled by X-H1, a 2018 model that is no longer applicable in production. Fujifilm has confirmed that the X-H2 is being developed in an interview with Barney Britton of DPReview, but anyone's guess is when it will arrive.
The X-T4 does not have X-H1's very deep handgrip or high-resolution display, but it compresses the hybrid stills-video camera concept continuously. Its sensor is a new generation generation, so it can compress 60 frames per second in 4K and reach 240 frames at 1080p, and it wisely allows you to drive in different settings for each item, scanning between the two for a single conversion change.
The interrogation screen adds a specific complaint like a voting camera. It's easy enough to point the lens at you, turn on face detection focus, and record walking and talking videos. I used an in-camera microphone to test the feature quickly, but the promoters will no doubt want to add a better external microphone for better sound quality.
IBIS keeps graphics strong, and there is an additional digital consolidation effect available to further develop things. Coming to the cost of some acquisition, a 1.1x yield was introduced. Because of this, you may want to have access to a wide lens, such as the XF 10-24mm F4, if you want to go — and your speeches show a lot of the world around you.
Hand Control
Photographers deployed at Fujifilm are familiar with the process of dialing a company that takes over its controls. The X-T4 is not lost, with over-dialing to set ISO, continuous drive, shutter speed, and EV. The shutter and ISO dialing can be locked, each with a shared or uninterrupted button.
There are many more buttons too, and many can be customized - the only exceptions are Display / Back, Delete, Menu / OK, and Play. One custom button is on the front and the second is on the top plate. In the background, each d-pad button can have its own function, and you can change what the AF ON, Q, and AEL buttons do. If you need more, the touch screen supports custom swipe custom functions in any cardinal mode.
No video recording button. Instead, the camera has a dedicated Movie mode, accessible with a Still / Movie switch, installed under shutter dialing. Shutter output is used to start and stop recording in Movie mode, and then capture the image in Still mode. Extraction has a cord, so you can add a soft release button or start it with a cord. An old school feature, but acceptable.
